Hamid Karzai was born on December 24, 1957, (Quas 9th, 1336) in the village of Karz, near Kandahar, Afghanistan. His grandfather named Khair Mohammad Khan, served during the War of Independence as well as Afghanistan and the Deputy Speaker of the Senate. His father, Abdul Ahad Karzai, is a tribal elder (Popalzai) and one of the important national figures in Afghanistan, which served as Deputy parliament during the 1960s. Abdul Karzai moved with his family to Kabul when he entered Parliament. Hamid Karzai formal education in primary schools Mahmood Hotaki, then proceed to secondary school Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani, and high school in Habibia High School. After graduating from high school, he traveled to India as an exchange student in 1976, and was accepted to learn to take a master's degree in international relations and political science from the University of Simla. He obtained his master's degree in the year 1983 (1362), shortly after the Soviet invasion in Afghanistan that began in 1979.

Hamid Karzai then traveled to Pakistan, joined the mujahideen fighters against the Soviet occupation of his homeland. In 1985, he visited Lille, France, to attend a three-month journalism course. When he returned to Peshawar, Pakistan, he served as Director of Information and later as Deputy Director of the Political Office of the National Rescue Front, led by Professor Sebghatullah Mujadidi. After the formation of the Transitional Government of Mujahideen in 1989, he was appointed as Director of the Foreign Relations Unit in the Office of the President of the Interim Government. When the mujahideen government established in Kabul in 1992, Hamid Karzai was appointed as deputy foreign minister. Two years later, when the civil war between various Mujahideen groups began, he resigned from his post and started to work actively for the national organization Loya Jirga (Grand Council). As a deeply religious, he believes that only through the Loya Jirga, Afghanistan's difficulties can be overcome, and the differences between the conflicting parties can be resolved peacefully. This belief is poured by the Emergency Loya Jirga in 2002 and the Constitutional Loya Jirga in 2003/2004.

On August 2000, Abdul Karzai (Hamid's father) who lived in Quetta, Pakistan, was killed by a radical Muslim group Taliban and foreign groups of supporters. While Hamid itself continues to push his people resist the Taliban. Karzai family commitments, and Hamid specifically, to clean Afghanistan from the grip of foreign hands, was not affected by this tragedy, and he kept eager to fight the Taliban

Hamid Karzai returned to Uruzgan province in October 2001 along with three friends, and they worked to coordinate local efforts to get rid of the Taliban and their supporters from the earth Afghanistan. On December 5 th, 2001, while he was still in Afghanistan to lead these efforts, he was appointed as Chairman of the Interim Administration of Afghanistan by the participants of the Bonn conference sponsored by the United Nations. He, along with the cabinet that had been appointed, took his oath of office on December 22 the same year.

His role as leader of the country was confirmed by members of the Emergency Loya Jirga, when he was elected President of the Transitional Government on June 13, 2002. During the first presidential election on October 9, 2004, Hamid Karzai won 55.4% of the vote, beating its nearest competitor, with more than 3 million votes and was elected for a term of 5 years as President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. He took his oath at Salam Khana Palace on December 7 th, 2004, in the presence of Afghan officials and officials from around the world.

In 1999, he married Dr Zeenat Quraishi, a gynecologist and have a son. Hamid speaks in Pashtu, Dari, Urdu and English with lancer.
