Birthplace : Ioannina, Greece

Greek President Karolos Papoulias is from 2005 to the present. Previously, he had been a Minister of Foreign Affairs of years 1985-1989 and 1993-1996.
Karolos himself was the son of Major General Gregorios Papoulias. He studied law at the University of Athens and the University of Milan and earned his doctorate from the University of Cologne.
Karolos is a founding member of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement and became an active member in situ. He is also a founding member and the president of the Association for the Greek Linguistic Heritage until today.

While serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karolos plays an important role in achieving a solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine. He became a mediator in order to militants and Yassir Arafat may arrive in Greece with survivors of Lebanon in 1983.

On December 12, 2004, Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, the leader of the New Democracy party, and George Papandreou, leader of PASOK opposition party, nominated Karolos as president. He was finally elected on February 8, 2005. The father of three daughters who is fluent in Greek, French, German, and Italian is sworn in as President of Greece to-7 on March 12, 2005, replacing Konstatinos Stephanopoulos. Karolos re-elected as president for a second time and the last time on February 3, 2010.
