when the devastating waves struck Aceh 2004 , Martunis plans to play football with his friends on the football field of the village. He even had to wear the national costume of Portugal being pirated that he bought in the city of Banda Aceh . Suddenly came the tsunami . Martunis who was just sitting in class III Elementary School with his mother , Salwa ; brother , Nurul A'la ( 12 years ) ; and his sister , Annie ( 2 years ) , trying to save themselves by riding pick up his neighbors . At that time , his father was working in the farm. When the tsunami waves rolled, pick up any sink. Martunis, mother, and two brothers down with the car carrying. Mother, brother and sister disappeared tsunami swept away, so goodbye forever. Martunis survived after grabbing a piece of wood, then floating. Then he moved to a mattress that pass nearby, but Nahas, mattresses and even then drowned. Then he climbed up a tree to survive. He survived after a tsunami swept back again to the sea and stranded in the marsh near the tomb of Teungku Syiah Kuala.
After 21 days to survive, residents found Martunis on January 15, 2005. Residents of handing him over to the British television crew who happened to be covered in the region. In an instant picture Martunis are still wearing the Portugal national team, circulating in European television stations.
